Improving The Lives of Athletes

OUR VISION

At Legacy Pro Sports Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of athletes facing the dual challenges of mental health and performance pressures. We envision a world where every athlete—at the youth, collegiate, or professional level—has access to the comprehensive support they need to thrive both on and off the field. Our vision extends beyond the conventional boundaries of emotional wellness to embrace the holistic development of athletes, empowering them to navigate the complexities of their careers with confidence and resilience.

To actualize this vision, our mission encompasses a broad spectrum of services specifically designed to address the unique needs of athletes. Recognizing the critical importance of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in today’s sports landscape, we offer specialized assistance in managing and leveraging these assets for career advancement and financial stability. Our services include career development, financial literacy, compliance and education, marketing and branding, social media management, and public relations.

Through these initiatives, Legacy Pro Sports Foundation commits to improving athletes’ mental health and emotional well-being and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resources to navigate the challenges and opportunities of their careers. Our holistic approach to athlete development underscores our belief in the potential of every individual we serve, aiming to foster a generation of athletes who are as accomplished and resilient in life as they are in their sports.

Together, we aspire to create a legacy of strength, resilience, and success for athletes at all stages of their journey.

BRANDON’S STORY

Brandon Siler, the Founder and President of Legacy Pro Sports, is a testament to resilience and the power of support in the face of mental health struggles. With a six-year NFL career abruptly ended by the heart-wrenching suicide of his teammate and close friend, Jevon Belcher, at the Kansas City Chiefs facility in 2012, Brandon faced a personal crisis that led him to retire from the sport he loved. The following years brought immense challenges, including his battle with anxiety and depression, which led to two suicide attempts.

Yet, through the darkness, Brandon found light in his unwavering faith and the specialized support of the Legacy Healthy Minds program. His journey through adversity inspired a profound understanding of the need for structured support in the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) landscape—a landscape often tumultuous and uncertain for athletes navigating their public personas and personal endeavors.

Today, as the head of Legacy Pro Sports, Brandon leverages his experiences to provide guidance and structure to current and former professional athletes. His aim is to ensure that others do not face these challenges alone, offering them the tools and resources necessary to build a fulfilling life beyond sports.

Collective Fundraising

The average collective nationally has raised between $3 million to $5 million, with a computed average of just under $3.9 million for all 211 collectives listed in a particular database. There’s substantial variation, with some collectives significantly outperforming or underperforming these averages.

Compensation

While the average compensation for student athletes on the Opendorse platform was about $1,300 per deal, the median compensation was about $65 per NIL activity. This significant difference suggests a few very large deals can inflate the average compensation figure.

Local vs. National NIL Deals

In 2022, local NIL deals were more common than deals with national brands. Apparel/footwear led the categories, accounting for 20% of all NIL activity, followed by restaurants (14%), and technology, with NFT deals being prominent in the latter category.

Social Media Role’s

Social media is a huge part of NIL activity, representing 72% of all NIL-related activity. This encompasses athletes acting as influencers, promoting their own brands or merchandise, and selling content directly to consumers.

35% of Professional Athletes Struggle with Mental Health Performance

Only 2% of student-athletes will go on to play professionally. According to various studies and reports, the percentage of professional athletes who struggle with mental health performance is significantly higher than that of the general population. The intense pressure and scrutiny that comes with being a professional athlete can take a toll on mental health, leading to conditions such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. These numbers highlight the need for increased support and resources to address the mental health and well-being of athletes.

20 – 35% of College Athletes Struggle with Mental Health Performance

Mental Health Performance is a pervasive issue that impacts millions of individuals worldwide, including college athletes. Unfortunately, mental health concerns in student-athletes are frequently overlooked, and identifying the signs of mental illness can be challenging. However, there are some common indicators, such as changes in mood, including increased irritability, sadness, or anxiety. Other symptoms may involve difficulty concentrating, alterations in sleep patterns, changes in appetite, or inconsistent performance.

DISABILITIES Technology-based Solutions We Service

Technology-based solutions for mental health have been gaining popularity in recent years, thanks to advancements in neuroscience and digital technologies:

  • Biofeedback
  • Neurofeedback
  • Brain Mapping

Biofeedback, neurofeedback, and brain mapping therapy are among the most promising technologies utilized to assess and treat mental health performance. Biofeedback involves monitoring a person’s physiological responses to stress, anxiety, or depression, and teaching them techniques to control those responses. Neurofeedback entails training the brain to regulate its activity, leading to improvements in cognitive and emotional functioning. Brain mapping therapy employs advanced imaging techniques to identify areas of the brain affected by mental health performance and target those areas for treatment. Overall, these technology-based solutions offer a unique and effective approach tailored to individual needs, providing hope and relief to those suffering from mental health performance.

BIOFEEDBACK

Biofeedback is a therapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body to enhance both physical and mental well-being. In a biofeedback session, a skilled practitioner will use non-invasive sensors to measure specific bodily functions, which are then displayed on a screen. Through practice and guidance, individuals can learn to modify these functions without the need for additional equipment.

BRAIN MAPPING

An innovative technique that is gaining traction in the field of mental health, particularly among athletes. This technique involves the use of advanced neuroimaging technology to map the brain and identify any abnormalities or dysfunctions that may contribute to mental health issues. By analyzing the activity and connectivity of various regions of the brain, brain mapping can help diagnose conditions such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in athletes. Additionally, brain mapping can provide valuable insights into the effects of sports-related concussions and traumatic brain injuries on mental health performance.

NEUROFEEDBACK

Neurofeedback, also referred to as EEG biofeedback, is a form of therapy that evaluates an individual’s brainwave activity through computer-based analysis. It uses visual or auditory signals to help patients recognize and modify their thought patterns. Consequently, patients can improve their brain function and potentially alleviate signs of neurological disorders and mental health problems. This therapeutic intervention is known for providing immediate feedback and has been shown to be effective in enhancing brain regulation.
