How much will this cost me?
Legacy does not charge anything unless you win. During your Intake Call, our staff will discuss contract provisions based on which disability you apply for.
Can I apply for more than one benefit at a time?
You can apply for more than one benefit at a time, but which benefits you apply for will depend on your individual situation. The Disability Plan may require that payments for one disability be offset or altered due to approval for another disability, so Legacy will walk you through what route is best for you during your Intake Call.
Can Legacy assist with mental health needs?
Yes, Legacy values the mental health of our clients above all else and will do everything possible to ensure you receive the help you need and educate you on all the resources available.

Are orthopedic injuries the only way to qualify for Line of Duty?
- Most Line of Duty beneficiaries qualifies via orthopedic impairments. Those impairments must add up to at least 9 points on the Disability Plan’s Point System. Legacy will do a thorough review of your records to determine your eligibility for this requirement.
- You may also qualify for Line of Duty if you have suffered an impairment that results in 50% or greater loss of speech, sight, or hearing, or your impairment is the primary or contributory cause of the functional impairment of a vital bodily organ or the central nervous system.
How long am I eligible to apply for Line of Duty?
- If you have 4 or fewer Credited Seasons, you must apply within 4 years of the date you are no longer an Active Player.
- If you have 5 or more Credited Seasons, your deadline to apply is the number of years you are an Active Player, starting with the date you are no longer Active.
How much will I be paid if I am approved for the Line of Duty Disability?
The minimum payout is $4000/month for 7.5 years. The exact amount you will receive will depend on your Disability Credits accrued.

What does it mean to be Totally and Permanently disabled?
Totally and Permanently disabled means you are unable to work. There are other provisions, which will be discussed during your Intake Call with Legacy.
How many Credited Seasons do I need to have to qualify for T&P?
While there are exceptions, the general rule is three Credited Seasons. Legacy will discuss exceptions with you during your Intake Call.
How much will I be paid if I am approved for the Total and Permanent Disability?
T&P payments are based on which Category you qualify for.
- Active Football: $22,000/month until you begin receiving your pension or are no longer totally and permanently disabled
- Active Non-Football: $13,750/month until you begin receiving your pension or are no longer totally and permanently disabled
- Inactive A: $11,250/month until you begin receiving your pension or are no longer totally and permanently disabled
- Inactive B: $5,000/month until you begin receiving your pension or are no longer totally and permanently disabled
How will I know which Category I qualify for?
Legacy will help you determine which Category you qualify for, as well as your overall eligibility for this benefit. There are various stipulations that will apply based on other benefits and/or pensions you receive.
How long does the process take?
In short, it depends. We do a comprehensive review for each client and may need to procure records on your behalf.
MLB TOTAL & PERMANENT FAQs

What does it mean to be Totally and Permanently disabled?
Being totally and Permanently disabled means you are unable to find gainful employment or make a substantial wage. There are other provisions, which will be discussed during your Intake Call with Legacy.
How many Credited Seasons do I need to have to qualify for T&P?
While there are exceptions, the general rule is 4 years of credited service in the MLB. Legacy will discuss exceptions with you during your Intake Call.
How much will I be paid if I am approved for the Total and Permanent Disability?
$6,000/month until you begin receiving your pension or are no longer totally and permanently disabled. If your pension payments are less than your T&P benefits, MLB will pay the difference so you receive these benefits for the rest of your life. You also receive an additional $600/month for every dependant you have (children under 19).

Do I need to have suffered a concussion in the NFL to qualify for the Neurocognitive Disability?
No! Impairment can be found without any concussions on record. Our staff will provide an in-depth assessment to determine whether you may be eligible for the benefit, regardless of the concussions suffered.
How many Credited Seasons do I need to have to qualify for Neuro?
Generally, you must have been active for one game during the regular or postseason, and be under the age of 65. There are other requirements related to how recently you were an Active Player. Legacy will discuss these requirements during your Intake Call.
How much will I be paid if I am approved for the Neurocognitive Disability?
This depends on whether you are approved for mild or moderate neurocognitive impairment:
- Mild: Minimum of $3500/month for 15 years or until age 65
- Moderate: Minimum of $5500/month for 15 years or until age 65
