Why claims get denied

Most denials are fixable

The plan decides on the evidence in your file. When an MLB claim is denied, it's usually because something was missing, not because you can work.

01

Credited service count

The plan counted fewer than 4 years of credited service. Partial seasons and injured list time are often missed.

02

Missing records

Surgical, treatment or team medical records that show your condition never made it into the file.

03

Can’t-work evidence

The file didn’t show that your condition keeps you from working in any job for substantial pay, for at least five years.

04

Deadlines & paperwork

A missed form or an incomplete application the plan read against you.

How we appeal

From denied to approved

An appeal is your chance to put what was missing in front of the plan. Here's how we use it.

Step 01

Free denial review

A 30-minute call. Bring your denial letter. We tell you straight what went wrong and whether an appeal makes sense.

Step 02

Get your file and service record

We request the full claim file and your official MLB service record, so we see exactly what the plan saw.

Step 03

Build what was missing

We correct service time errors, gather new medical records and close every gap the denial pointed to.

Step 04

File and follow through

We write and submit the appeal before your deadline and handle the back-and-forth until there’s a final answer.

Why it's worth appealing

An appeal is a fresh look

New reviewers

Your appeal goes to the Pension Committee, reviewed by people who weren't part of the original decision and give it no deference.

A different medical opinion

If your denial involved a medical judgment, a different medical professional is consulted.

Your file, at no cost

You're entitled to free copies of the documents behind your claim. We request them so nothing is missed.

Yes. You or an authorized representative can appeal a denied MLB Total & Permanent disability claim to the Pension Committee.

180 days from the denial. That window is for disability claims. Other plan decisions have shorter deadlines, so don’t assume they’re the same.

The Pension Committee meets quarterly, and appeals are generally decided at its next meeting. Filing a complete appeal early helps you make the next meeting.

Check the count. A full season earns one year, and in a partial season every 43 days earns a quarter year. Injured list time counts too. We pull your official record.

You may be able to take your claim to federal court. A strong appeal record matters, because it’s usually what the court reviews.

$6,000 a month until age 62, plus $600 a month for each qualified dependent.
